SyFy Collector Intervention highlights Catwoman Collector

On August 14th, the Collector Intervention series premiered on SyFy - starting with an episode featuring a character collector obsessed with Catwoman.  I want his collection!  He has all the comics, statues, action figures... sigh...

Plus his wife lefts him display some pieces in the house, starting with a wonderful Catwoman and Batman print.  He even has a Catwoman music box, IN THE BOX! Wow!

Arkham City game - co-starring Catwoman!

Comic Book Resources, among other sources, reported exciting news about the next Arkham game - it will feature Catwoman as a playable character! The trailer for this game looks amazing, I can not wait for this game to come out later this year!

New Catwoman Series coming in September!

Comic Book Resources interviewed Judd Winick regarding his work on his relaunch titles for DC's 52. I am not familiar with Judd's work, but am mildly excited about Guillem March being the artist on this title. His covers to "Gotham City Sirens" were at times stunning, and he certainly has a talent for illustrating sultry vixens. I would have loved for a return by Cover artist Adam Hughes, but that was too much to hope for.

Just one more comment regarding Guillem's cover art... I feel that Jim Balent gets a ton of flack for his 'sexy' version of Catwoman. I find such charges laughable, since everyone from Jim Lee to Guillem has taken Darwyn Cooke's functional design for Catwoman, and sexied it up with skin tight latex and cleavage. Even the new Arkham City game has Catwoman unzipped, giving Power Girl some competition in the 'distracting costume' department.

Look - it's Catwoman ('00's style) from the "Batman Live World Arena Tour", the stage show produced in London. Looks like a very nice cosplay version of the costume, plus they have a Poison Ivy and Harley. Great shot of her in action above, and below with her Gotham cronies.

I already like that they are keeping the characters close to DC Style guide, unlike Marvel's POS Spider-man Turn off the Dark. I missed all the publicity during Spider-man, I wonder if DC learned from Marvel's mess up.

1966 Topps Catwoman Foldee

Just found this auction for a Catwoman "Princess of Plunder" Foldee! I love finding kitschy 60's paraphernalia. This seller has a bunch of other Topps Comic Book character Foldees listed. I really need to update my "Catwoman" ebay search to filter out all the Halle Berry movie junk - cards and DVDs from that movie are flooding my search results - making it hard to find the Good Stuff!

Catwoman at Auction

I'm going to highlight a few interesting Catwoman related items, I've found during my travels online.

If you frequent ebay, this first piece will be very familiar to you. It is the original Joe DeVito painting to one of Catwoman's recognizable images from the 90's. This image, based on Jim Balent's work (I am guessing he only did the layout) was released as a poster in 1997. An interesting piece for Catwoman and Jim Balent fans alike. The painting has been listed and re-listed on ebay for a while now, and is currently being sold by mcdeadpool. The auction is subtitled, "The Mona Lisa of the Comic Art World"! The art is currently listed for 423 Thousand dollars. Yes, you read that right, 423,000.




Next up is a 1970's ceramic Catwoman night light. Re-using the mold from the Catwoman music box, this kitschy item is listed at $99.95. The seller is daddydineros, located in York PA. I have the music box, and would love to add this night light, if she wasn't so cock-eyed!







Last up are painted style guides for the 1992 move, Batman Returns. Featuring the Penguin, Catwoman, and Batman, these images were used on various at McDonalds. Batman's pose in particular seems familiar, and could be on a Splash page from the 1989 Batman Movie Adaption by Jerry Ordway. These three pieces are currently at auction through comiclink, for $32,500. Especially in light of Chris Nolan's third Batman movie, it's fun to remember Catwoman's look during her prior movie appearance.

Catwoman casting news - Anne Hathaway

Though Anne is not recognized as an action star (yet), I have long been a fan of hers and am very eager to see her portrayal of CATWOMAN. Anne is age appropriate for the Bruce Wayne's character, and I am much happier with this casting than Maggie and Katie in Nowlan's earlier Batman movies.

Now the wait begins for the first teaser images of her character in costume!

Catwoman cover story in Back Issue 40

I am a few months behind noticing this issue of Back Issue featuring comicdom's most (and some of the least) well know Cat-themed characters, such as Catwoman, Black Cat, Hellcat, and Josie. And best of all, it features a striking image of 70's Catwoman, by Joe Staton and colorist Freddy Lopez.

The Cover article is "Catwoman of Nine Tales: The Reformation and Conflictions of Selina (Catwoman) Kyle" by Jim Kingman, and features a bunch of nice COLOR photos. Most of them were familiar but this one, by Brian Bolland, was new to me!

Also, a nice easter egg is on the 1st page, where the "Special Thanks" section lists Selina Kyle, along side esteemed creators like Dick Giordano, Steve Englehart, and Ernie Colon.



Back Issue is an (almost) monthly magazine, put out by TwoMorrows publishing, and has great depth articles on past creators, publishers, and characters.

Catwoman Returns! - More Catwoman Art for Sale

Michelle Pfeiffer perrr-fectly embodied Catwoman in the movie.

The Artists Choice has a group of Catwoman/Batman/Penguin pages available for sale - from the seminal 90's Batman movie - 'Batman Returns' .



My favorite thing about these pages, besides the art by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, is the kitschy-fun dialog. For example, Penguin's "I saw her first... Gotta Fly" - spoken after Catwoman's explosive first appearance.

And sorry, page 26 is already spoken for. "I saw her first..." :P

Miss Fury and Catwoman... Collected

I wish there were more collections of Catwoman stores, but lets be thankful for what we have. This storyby Suzette Chan at Sequential Tart, published during Catwoman The Movie, highlights Catwoman's evolution from one note to full character.

I am glad she touched on Miss Fury, the Marvel comics Golden Age 'prototype' for Miller/Jim Balent's look for Selina. I am surprised more is not made of her slinky/cat burglar look, that is closer to the Catwoman we know today - than her 1940's counterpart. And to boot Miss Fury was created, written and illustrated by Tarpe (June) Mills, who reportedly resembled her creation. Amazing.

Catwoman Art for Sale

Beginning today I will regularly post links to Catwoman art that I found for sale on the web. Of course, I love to collect Catwoman art, but I can't afford all the art out there - and maybe this will come in handy for some other Cat-fans.

Ty Templeton, artist extraordinaire, recently listed some McDonald's art from the 90's including some sweet Catwoman/Batman/Joker pages used for Happy Meal art!

As you may know, Ty wrote and drew for the Batman The Animated Series comic book, in its various incarnations. So its especially cool to see this art.
