Eartha Kitt dead at 81

Eartha Kitt, one of three actresses to play Catwoman in the 1960's Batman TV series, died Thursday. Kitt, 81, died in New York, where she was being treated for colon cancer, according to CNN.

Her sultry Christmas classic, "Santa Baby" is one of my favorite seasonal songs and her purred lyrics are unforgettable.

Gift Ideas

Here's a couple gift suggestions, for those with a large disposable income.

First up is the Alex Ross - Catwoman cover to Batman #685. This painting is available for sale from Alex's trusty art dealer. What a beauty!

From Graphic Collectibles comes this gorgeous Catwoman painting by Joe DeVito. Although Mitch doesn't describe it, I believe the piece was penciled by Jim Balent, and dates from the early nineties. This would look great above my fireplace!

Bettie Page April 23 1923 - December 11 2008

In very belated news, Bettie Page, the queen of curves, passed away Thursday, December 11. She was laid to rest Tuesday, December 16 in Hollywood, near Marilyn Monroe's crypt. Here are a few fun pics of Bettie playing around with whips and in costume. Rest in peace, Bettie.

Catwoman in Batman 3?

The internet is abuzz with rumors of Batman 3 casting. Very timely as The Dark Knight was released this week, and everyone is rewatching it. Ted Casablanca reports that Rachel Weisz is rumored to be cast as Selina in a 'sexier' Batman movie.

Blog@Newsarama referenced this report with the wonderful picture. She has beautiful features and reminds me a younger
Helena Bonham Carter, who would have made a great feline felon. I remain a bit skeptical that Rachel would 'stoop' to this role, but she would make a great Gotham addition!

The DC Nation in this week's floppys discuss the cancellation of the Bat-titles, and state that Batman and Detective Comics will be on hiatus. In their place will be the BATTLE FOR THE COWL mini. Tony Daniel says Catwoman will appear in this series that he's drawing and writing. Here is Tony's version of Catwoman in the series, based on his recent ebay auction.

Also, Catwoman makes an appearance in the BATMAN #686 , according to the promo art in Previews for Gaiman's WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE CAPED CRUSADER? She is sporting a costume that is a mixture of the Catmask / and Purple & Green costume from the early Batman issues.

In non-Catwoman news, reports are that 1950's pinup queen Bettie Page is in critical condition. The AP picked up this story, but signs for her recovery are not good. I am sorry to hear this news, but hope she finds peace soon.
